A lifelong horsewoman, Melanie realized her dream of owning a barn several years ago. She operates Winecup Farms, a private facility east of Austin, Texas, named after her favorite wildflower. In her horse, Camira, Melanie says she’s found the rare blend of a derby horse who can take on the challenging handy courses, but also take care of her in the Amateur Adult division. “She takes care of me and always has,” Melanie says. Slow to mature, the mare is just coming into her own and has taken a liking to the derbies. “She just loves them. She puts her ears forward and goes after them,” Melanie says. “I’m glad I believed in her and gave her the time to develop.”
